Our Coach

Steve MontagueSteve Montague, CMS, is President, Trainer and Coach. Stephen R. Montague, President of Effective Sales Development, Inc. understands the dynamics of sales - the psychology of sales. He knows how to find and keep the competitive edge it takes to be successful in a crowded marketplace. The son of a career salesman, he then added the insights gained from his college psychology studies to create a uniquely successful approach to improving sales.    

Never interested in “good enough,” Steve continues to look for ways to improve his performance.  His ability to actively listen to you describe your obstacles, then show you how to turn them into opportunities, is what sets Steve apart. 

In just five years on the sales force for B & K Medical Inc. of Naerum, Denmark, he was twice named Salesman of the Year.  During his six year tenure as Division Sales Trainer at Iolab Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson Company, he was consistently a top sales performer and successfully trained many members of their sales force.  At the investment firm of MDHM, Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri, he hired and trained a sales force of 150 to sell stock and insurance. 

As President of Effective Sales Development, Steve combines his knowledge, experience, and unique perspectives with the proven Sandler Selling System to help you define and surpass your goals.  Steve has attended countless trainings promoting systems intended to improve sales.  With Sandler Selling Systems, he has added what they all lack – a proven approach detailing how to implement the system on a day-to-day basis.  Through his dedication and excellence as a Certified Trainer in Sales and Marketing, Steve has successfully helped a large number and wide variety of large, medium, and small companies to higher and higher levels of performance and personal growth.  Steve’s approach not only works, it works well.

Denise Upah-Mills, Director of Organizational Strategies and Partner with Effective Sales Development, Inc. adds a unique organizational leadership ability to the business development mix. Denise has a degree in Business Administration, majoring in finance and banking and has attained several executive titles in management consulting, human resources, application technology and business planning and development. Her well rounded experience in these areas have qualified her to be an extremely valuable asset to any company.  We are fortunate to have her on our team here at Effective Sales Development and look forward to sharing her expertise and experience with you as a valued added service that would be very difficult to match in today’s corporate environment.

John Condry, Management Coach, is an electrifying speaker and coach, with a powerful message.  His “personal responsibility” approach to management is allowing management teams across the country to thrive not merely survive.  John’s company, Career Success, was formed to share his results oriented management approach.  John is the author of the “Cornerstones of Managing for High Performance” and the “Cornerstones of High Performance Customer Retention” and “Play-book of Account Development Strategies”.  John entertains as he enlightens you, combining personal experiences and real world examples to give a fresh perspective to the management process.

The training that I am getting from the Sandler Program is already starting to work in my sales calls. Just this week Shawn Enger and myself made a sales call where we were asking the prospect great questions. We had him talking about his business and what he was wanting, but we were not getting anywhere with him. He just was not responding to what we were doing.

At the time I noticed that the sales call was going to be a bust so I looked at him and asked him "if he was to put together a program how would he do it?" He then began to tell us exactly what he would wanted and how he would do it. Without the Sandler Training I would have never asked him this and gotten to the point where we might have a future customer. In the past we would have gotten up and left the sales call thinking that we could not do anything for him.

Also having a system to follow on setting up a quality sales call has worked as well. looking for the customers pain and finding a reason for the prospect to invite me in to talk to them has given me better prospect calls and having a reason to go and see them makes it easier to find more pain to sell on.
